Mortal, or Mortalkind, is a creature type of the Mortal Realms. They include most sapient creatures like Humans, Duardin, Aelves, among many others.[1a][3a]

History

Before the Age of Chaos], mortalkind boasted innumerable empires and civilizations stretching across the Mortal Realms. Each with their own cultures and histories.[3a]

Guidance of the Gods

During the Age of Myth mortalkind came under the guidance of the Gods of Order who aided them in creating innumerable marvels.[2c] Sigmar, known as the God-King, united much of prehistoric mortalkind in the Age of Myth teaching them his own language, which became the basis for Azurite, a koine that transcended all borders, aided them in forging civilization, and taught them the ways of battle and conquest.[4a] While it was the Gods of Light Teclis and Tyrion who taught the subtle arts of magic to mortals during the Age of Myth.[2b] Gorkamorka took to the task of clearing out monstrous denizens of the Realms to allow the civilizations of mortals to grow.[2d]

Mortality

Mortals are those beings who are subject to mortality.[2a]

Souls

All mortals possess souls. When, most, mortals die their souls are transported to the Realm of Shyish where they take on a spectral form within an underworld created by the belief of their people. This afterlife existence persists until belief in the underworld fades, when this happens the underworld and souls within dissolve into oblivion.[2a]
