History
Age of Myth
Pludu Quasque, who hails from the nation himself, claims that the peoples of the Seven Cities are responsible for bringing light and lumination to the other Mortal Realms and have been doing so since the beginning of time.[1a]
Age of Chaos
A Skaven sneaks into the Lyceum of Radiance and steals one of the four crystal tears from the statue of the Weeping Sage, Adembi, and although it is slain before escaping it's soul drags the tear to the hellish afterlife known as Ruin. The loss of the tear causes Adembi, whose soul resides in the statue, to go quiet. Before the tear was stolen Adembi would give council to the Grand Luminance and the group known as the Septarchy.[1a]
Government
The most preeminent mages of the empire are known as the High Hierophants of Light and they reside at the top of the nation's hierarchy, surpassed only by the emperor of the Seven Cities, the Grand Luminance.[1a]
A group known as the Septarchy are also part of the nation's governance.[1a]
Culture
The noble men of the powerful mage houses that rule the nation are known to wear expensive make up, like black kohl under their eyes, and oil their beards. They are also known to wear conical crowns atop their heads.[1a]
According to Pludu Quasque the streets of his home city, Balshizzam, echo with songs that have been sung without reprieve since before the Mortal Realms existed, taught to them by gods more ancient and terrible than the Pantheon of Order.[1a]
The people of the Seven Cities see unity and working with each other as their greatest virtue. While arrogance, pride, and hatred are seen as three of twelve forbidden urges.[1a]
Locations
- Balshizzam: One of the Seven Cities.[1a]
- Lyceum of Radiance: A famed and prestigious academy that trains mages to master the higher arcane arts, especially the Wind of Hysh.[1a]
- School of the Shining Snake[1a]
- Realmgates: Like many powerful nations, the Seven Cities have access to at least one Realmgate.[1a]
Notable Inhabitants
- Pludu Quasque: Pludu was a proud and arrogant sorcerer of a prestigious and ancient house of mages who can trace their lineages back for millenia. During his schooling days in the Lyceum of Radiance, he swore a drunken oath to the lesser god Adembi, patron of the Lyceum of Radiance whose soul resides in a statue within the academy, and was sent to recover an artefact of the god, a jewel shaped like a tear stolen by a Skaven and dragged down to it's afterlife after it died halfway into a gnawhole. His quest would eventually result in his death and Prince Maesa, Shattercap the Spite, and Idenkor Stonbrak, travelers he met at the Sign of the Brazen Claw in Shyish, chose to finish the quest in his stead.[1a]
- Hamanan Kekwe: A student of the Lyceum of Radiance during Pludu's school days. Pludu saw him as a rival, as both young men were equally arrogant but Kekwe was by far the more talented and outgoing of the two.[1a]
- Hepeknek: A teacher at the Lyceum of Radiance.[1a]
- Messana: A girl associated with the School of the Shining Snake.[1a]
Flora and Fauna
The nation was home to at least two horses whose skin is a vibrant, glowing lemon color and whose manes are the color of lustrous gold. Both known examples belong to Pludu Quasque, they were named Rados and Solio.[1a]
