Great Scaphodons are continent-sized deep sea creatures that reside on the bottom of the seas in the Mortal Realms.[1a]

History

Age of Chaos

During the apocalyptic Age of Chaos, Idoneth of the Ionrach, who eventually become known as the Nautilar, unknowingly establish their city-nation of Galanaur upon the shell of Nautilon, a Great Scaphodon.[1a][1b]

Age of Sigmar

At some point in the Age of Sigmar Skaven invade the city of Galanaur. This conflict, known as the Siege of the Great Scaphodon, lasts for six years and ravages many of the shell structures upon the back of the Great Scaphodon's back. The war only concludes when Volturnos and Stormcast Eternals arrive to aid the city, the Skaven leader Grystleback the Grey is slain. However, the Nautilar's empire is heavily damaged by the war and the taint of the Skaven yet lingers.[1a]

Biology

Great Scaphodons are rare, megalithic creatures, with even their offspring being larger than many of the mountains of the Mortal Realms. They are protected by thick and massive shells.[1b]

Ecology

They are known to travel between the oceans of the Mortal Realms. Nautilon, one upon which the city of Galanaur is built, once resided in the Maithnar Sea of the Realm of Life, until it migrated to the warm waters of Ghur's Atleus Ocean.[1b]
