An 'Embermaw's Promise is an artefact blade comprised of an obsidian blade, with Magmadroth skin wrapped around it's lower half to form a handle.[1a]

Origin

The Magmadroth known as Embermaw was a loyal, venerable warrior who participated in countless battles against the servants of Chaos, until finally succumbing to his words. With his dying breath he made a solemn pledge on the very blade that pierced his chest, swearing to come to the aid of any warrior with a fiery heart who called to him for aid.[1a]

Folklore

Some claim that there is only one such blade in the Mortal Realms and that Embermaw's promise, like any good promise, remains unbroken. Others claim there are many such blades, created by other Magmadroths.[1a]

Magical Properties

Whether there truly is only one Embermaw's Promise or many, calling upon their power requires the ultimate sacrifice. For the wielder must plunge the blade into their heart and call on Embermaw's aid, doing so transforms their body into that of a Magmadroth. They remain in control of themselves until the battle around them ends, in which case the blade in their heart will shatter and vanish into the Aetheric Void, whilst they will revert back to their true form before passing away.[1a]
