Daemons of Tzeentch are a faction of Chaos Daemons given form by Tzeentch. They swarm over battlefields searing the land with coruscating flames of change.[1]
Nature
The Daemons of Tzeentch are anarchic magic given form. As befits their ever-changing patron, their forms are many and varied and each has some measure of Tzeentch's capricious intellect. The very air about them shimmers with barely-restrained arcane energy and they often shift their colours or even their solidity - one moment appearing as stable as stone, the next as insubstantial as smoke. Like all daemons, they have no need for food or sleep, and should they be slain they do not die but instead return to the Realm of Chaos to reform.[2b]
When they gather in their great Convocations, they present a maddening sight. The air and ground glimmers and shifts through kaleidoscopic colours and myriad forms and blasts of raw sorcery arc around them. They advance in a maddening mass of incomprehensible anatomies, often driving observers insane before they even come close enough for their deadly magics to affect them.[2b]
The lesser daemons of Tzeentch - the Horrors, Flamers, Screamers and the like - lack much of the intellect and independence that characterizes the more powerful Heralds of Tzeentch and Lords of Change, but even they demonstrate strange and malevolent intelligence. They swarm about their betters, following orders when given but otherwise acting on whatever capricious desires characterize their kinds. The Heralds and the Lords of Change, by contrast, have keen minds, complex motivations, and incomprehensible goals. The Lords of Change in particular are given almost complete freedom to pursue Tzeentch's plans as they see fit, and often are the shadowy masters behind Arcanite Cults that seek to subvert the order of the Mortal Realms.[2b]
Organization
Daemons of Tzeentch gather in Convocations of like-minded manipulators. The exact composition of each Convocation is always in flux, but at its top is always a Lord of Change commanding nine hosts of daemons, each of which is led by a subordinate (be it a lesser Lord of Change, a Herald, or something stranger) and in turn might have its own nine lesser hosts. The members of each Convocation scheme against one another to rise in favour with the Convocation's master, and each Convocation in turn attempts to earn Tzeentch's favour and attention. Sabotage is common, with each Convocation attempting to thwart the others' plans while advancing their own.[2c]
The number of Convocations can vary from moment to moment, but the nine most favoured at the time have their sigil placed on the Shifting Pyramid of Yrch in the Crystal Labyrinth for all to see. Each of these favoured Convocations are also granted one of the Fractal Fortresses that guard the outer regions of Tzeentch's realm, and their members are resurrected more quickly when slain.[2a][2c]
