Daemon Princes are former mortals who have pleased the Dark Gods enough that they have been transfigured into immortal Daemons.[3a][3b]
Ascension
Daemon Princes are former Chaos champions that have proved themselves worthy enough to ascend to daemonhood, which is the ultimate goal of all the Slaves to Darkness that walk the Path to Glory. They have committed many heinous acts during their lifetime, often those that resonate with and empower their patrons and have been gifted with the reward of being reborn as a Daemon Prince.[1][2a]
Their bodies are transformed into Daemons with gigantic bodies and malefic talons capable of rending their foes apart. Furthermore, the Dark Gods often twist them into shapes more pleasing in their eyes. Like other Daemons, they can be summoned by spellcasters.[3a]
Some of the common examples of these transfigurations are:
- Princes can be granted an impressive set of wings, giving them the ability to fly.[3a]
- Princes of Chaos Undivided are cursed soul-eaters and can heal in combat by devouring souls, the more noteworthy it is the better.[3a]
- Princes of Khorne are blood-crazed and have liquid fire running through their veins allowing them to hit more with their attacks.[3a]
- Princes of Khorne can summon pools of gore around themselves on the ground, slicking it with blood and hindering the movements of the enemy.[3b]
- Princes of Nurgle are bloated with disease and have an unnatural ability to resist harm.[3a]
- Princes of Nurgle can have their bodies blessed with pestilent pustules that spray bile and corrosive acid when the prince is attacked.[3b]
- Princes of Tzeentch are surrounded by a nimbus of magical light, allowing them to cast and unbind spells like a wizard.[3a]
- Princes of Tzeentch are granted the ability to influence the arcane by their god granting them a fraction of his might.[3b]
- Princes of Slaanesh have incredibly quick reflexes.[3a]
- Princes of Slaanesh are in a constant state of deadly mania that drives them and their followers to higher heights as they suffer blissful injuries.[3b]
Role
Greater Daemons may treat Daemon Princes with contempt as some see them as being tainted by their mortal origins but the Slaves to Darkness venerate these beings as proof of the reward for their devotion. In battle they display the gift of daemonhood to their followers, using the sheer physical power combined with hellish powers they can call upon to swiftly overpower the enemy.[2a]
As they are born of the Chaos Gods, and know much of their true nature, these beings rarely see any reason to dissuade tribes of the Slaves to Darkness from their existing beliefs since the idolatrous nature of such worship often results in the Daemon Prince being heralded as a god that walks. Almost all Daemon Princes are incredibly proud, a side effect of having achieved their greatest ambition, and often surround themselves with the most powerful warriors they can find, forming a loathsome court over which the Daemon Prince reigns as an infernal monarch.[2a]
Wargear
Daemon Princes go into combat armed with Daemonic Axes or Hellforged Swords, blades capable of cutting through armour and flesh as it was made out of paper.[3a][3b]
Mark of Chaos
Daemon Princes can have the following Marks of Chaos:
- Mark of Khorne[3a][3b]
- Mark of Nurgle[3a][3b]
- Mark of Slaanesh[3a][3b]
- Mark of Tzeentch[3a][3b]
- Mark of Chaos Undivided[3b]
