Cloister of Ashes

The Cloister of Ashes that lays far below the streets of Hammerhal Aqsha is one of the greatest of the Stormvaults of the God-King of Azyr. This sprawling temple-city was built over a series of magma channels and lakes of bubbling sulphur. The Necroquake has revealed these forgotten ruins to many would-be looters and magic seekers, and the underground tremors and volcanic eruptions that are the norm of this region of the Great Parch opens new routes into the Cloister of Ashes more frequently and faster than the Hammers of Sigmar can secure them.[1b]

Treasures

Many treasures and artefacts can be found within the smouldering halls of the Cloister of Ashes and many have braved the ruins in search of them. Many of these treasures resonate with the heat of Aqshian magic.[1b]

  • Blade of Fulmination: The sword of the tyrant known as the King of Ashes. This blade still retains a burning desire to enslave and conquer, so the God-King sealed it deep beneath the earth in the Cloister of Ashes where it's evil could no longer scar the realms.[1c]

Locations

Inhabitants

  • Burned Man: An entity that guards the Stormvault from intruders. Those that brave the depths of the city and escape, speak of this guardian in terror. They describe him as a towering being whose blistered body glows with barely restrained power.[1b]
  • Charonhydra: A many-headed reptilian beast known as the Scourge of Aspiria, it is held firmly in a runemarked cage in the Cloister.[1c]
  • Ember Serpent: The spell-smiths of Tarascan summoned forth the Ember Serpent in their arrogance. But such magic can not be controlled and it destroyed their city. It was eventually sealed away in the Cloister of Ashes.[1c]
  • Four Sages of Aksharata: The greatest fire-sages of the God-King are entombed in a palace of burning gold in the Ashen Cloister, so that even in death they can serve Sigmar.[1c]

Quotes

‘Of late, I’ve heard rumours that an ancient lost city called the ‘Cloister of Ashes’ has been discovered deep beneath Hammerhal Aqsha. Supposedly, it’s a legendary repository of lost magical treasures, but no one is certain because the Stormcast execute anyone found snooping beneath the streets.
