Castigator
Castigators are those warriors of the Sacrosanct Chambers Justicar Conclaves armed with ranged weaponry. They are often used by Lord-Arcanums to bring ruin to those ethereal enemies of Order who can kill with a single touch, their distance offering relative safety.[1a][2a][3a]
Overview
Castigators serve as ranged support and shock troops for the Sacrosanct Chambers of the Stormhosts, often employed to fight ethereal enemies such as daemons and spirits. They serve as the Sacrosanct Chambers ranged specialists and are armed with Thunderhead Greatbows, marvels of Azyrite engineering that resemble heavy crossbows. These devastating weapons fire bolts with special flasks attached, within them are Stardrake storm-breath.{{Fn}1a}}[2a]
Hierarchy
Castigators are organized into units known as retinues. Each retinue of Castigators is led by a Castigator-Prime.[3a]
Rituals
Whenever Castigators return to High Azyr they seek out the aid of the Stardrakes of the Extremis Chambers. With their aid they perform a sombre ritual at dawn, whereupon the Stardrakes breath upon Thunderhead Maces, the missiles used by the Castigators, arranged into a twelve-pointed star, an echo of the ritual Dracothion performed to revive Sigmar. Once the ritual is completed the Castigators attune their souls to these celestial-imbued weapons. The Thunderhead Maces empowered in this manner are powerful enough to be able to shatter the armor, and ribcage it protects, worn by a Chaos Warrior.[1a]
Equipment
Castigators are armed with Thunderhead Greatbows, which fire bolts, known as Thunderhead Maces, with special flasks attached to their ends, that explode into daemon and spirit killing energy on impact. These flasks are filled with the breath of Stardrakes.[1a][3a] When forced into melee, Castigators can use the heavy stocks of their crossbows to bludgeon their foes.[3a]
