A Magmic Battleforge miniature.

Magmic Battleforges are glowing furnaces summoned by the Zharrgrim priests of the Fyreslayers. They contain a spark of the Zharrkhul, the sacred flame that burns in the heart of a Lodge's forge-temple.[1a]

Appearance and Role

When a battleforge is summoned, geysers of molten gold erupt from the earth and set to form an image of Grimnir. Within the icon's open mouth, the fires of the forge-temple leap to life.[2a]

The battleforge can be used for the forging and repair of weapons and equipment, but its true value is in allowing the Zharrgrim to perform religious rituals that need the flame of the Zharrkhul, such as the forging of Ur-gold runes and the ignition of funeral pyres.[1a] The holy energies of the battleforge empower the prayers of Zharrgrim nearby, and if necessary, a priest tending the forge during battle can choose to expend its power to empower the ur-gold runes of the entire fyrd.[1a] Even a spent battleforge is a religious icon to the Fyreslayers, and it is not unknown for quests to be undertaken to reignite their flames.[2a]

History

Legends dating to the Age of Myth tell of Magmic Battleforges appearing miraculously to Runemasters and Runesmiters on the eve of great battles.[1a] Over time, the priesthood learned and refined rituals to summon the forges[2a] and harness their powers, but only in the time since the Necroquake have the Zharrgrim been able to summon them regularly.[1a]
