Text formatting in Lexicanum

Bold/Italic text

In order to write an excellent article there are certain formatting functions that you will need to know about.

The Wiki comes with some built in HTML functions, but also comes with some easy Wiki codes. The most common Wiki tags are bold and italic. Text is made bold of italic by putting apostrophies before and after the word several times.

• ''two apostrophies'' indicates italic
• '''three apostrophies''' indicates bold
• '''''five apostrophies''''' indicates bold and italic

It is usual to make the first instance of the name of the article, within the article, bold. For instance, the article Dark Elves begins with:

The Dark Elves, or Druchii to give their name in the Elven tongue, were expelled from the Elven Kingdoms several millennia ago in a series of bloody civil wars.

There are two bold example here because Druchii has the same meaning as Dark Elves, and as such is the same as the title but using different words. There is no point in bolding a link as it has no effect although italicising will work.

Headings

Headings can make an article much more accessable by giving it structure. If an article has sections that need splitting up, they can be divided using headings.

Headings must be put onto a line of their own, and are made like this:

• ==Lead Title== (two equals signs) An example of this is 'Text Formatting in Lexicanum' shown above.
• ===Subheading=== (three equals signs) An example of this is '1.1 Bold/Italic Text'
• ====Minor Heading==== (four equals signs) An example of this is

If an article has at least four major headings (Lead titles), a table of contents is created automatically. You can try this in the Chaos wastes and find out what happens.
