In the Morruk Hills hidden by mists lived a breed of Orruks known as Kruleboyz. They had been largely forgotten by outsiders however Killabass Gazog had been granted visions by figure known as "Mouth of Mork" who led him to the recipe for a potent sludge-broth that went back to the days when their kind first conquered the swamps. The brewing of the potion creates a fog that induces a mind-shattering panic in anyone that has not been inhaling swamp gases laced with primordial magic like the Kruleboyz and is outright acidic to flesh not coated in the toad-like secretions of the Kruleboyz. But most importantly it could corrupt leylines so the living continent of Thondia could be poisoned to a frenzy that would result it in devouring the continent of Carcasse Donse. War at Amberstone Watch was a conflict between Stormcast Eternals of the Hammers of Sigmar and Dawnbringers against Kruleboyz Orruks during the Era of the Beast. [1]

Background

This would result in Kragnos being enraged and forced to avenge his homeland.[1]

But first Gazog had to gain the necessary exotic ingredients which included black sulphur-crystals traded from Chaos Duardin, organs of sludge wyverns and bog lampreys, slivers of arcane constructs that roamed the deepest marshes. An alliance of bosses helped Gazog to gain all the materials with the ruler of Weeping Fangz claiming leadership by offering the tongue of the elder Toad Dragon Slaugoloth which had been killed by luring it into a trap of duardin-forged spike bombs. At the advice of Wozgag, Gazog's chief shaman the elixir's capabilities were tested on Sigmarite frontier settlements. The first was Krorhoch Creek which was destroyed by infecting the town's dammed river until it began to thrash in torment causing the dam to break and flood the town. The area was then turned into a true marsh by Swampcalla Shamans. Salzagor's Hope however was protected by statues which protected it from magically assaults including the madness-inducing mist. Kruleboyz being semi-aquatic slunk along the river to ambush ships of a trading convoy. They only spared the captains whose tongues were removed and their limbs tied to the wheels. When the fleet reached the town the orruks gutted the bellies of hobgrots who had the ingrediatnts of the potions stitched up inside them. Wozgag himself brewed elixirs upon the highest crow's nest as the town of smothered in the fog while the orruks made sport of the crazed-citizens. The final target was the Sigmarite Stronghold of Amberstone Watch but unlike others the Orruks launched a more direct assault. The Weeping Fangz summoned the full might of their allies mustering an army of Gutrippaz, Man-skewer Boltboyz as well as monster riders of Gitsnatchaz and Beast-breakaz. Constant terrifying howls from the Morruk Hills had demoralised and exhausted the defenders and were easily defeated by the Kruleboyz whose Shamans turned the settlement into a swamp covered in a bog-mist laced with the mind-melting acidic fumes of the potion.[1b]

The sudden loss of contact with the frontier outposts were noticed by Yndrasta who was on the hunt for Kragnos and Gordrakk after the Siege of Excelsis. War at Amberstone Watch

Arrival of the Stormcast Eternals

The Stormcast Eternals first arrived in Krorhoch Creek where they found the ruins of the settlement sinking into the foetid mire. They theorised the Idoneth Deepkin to be behind the attack but Tyberain noted a malice behind the attack which was different from the attacks of the aelves. Then they travelled to Salzagor's Hope where the found the situation to be the same. They discovered a foul-smelling mist that caused the Stormcasts that breathed too deeply to feel a gnawing fear in their guts and see glimpses of phantoms.[1a]

However it was in Salzagor's Hope they finally found the perpetrators, diminutive greenskins in patchworks of ironwrought armour and many bearing iron-limbs scavanging the ruins of the settlement. The Stormcasts bellowed their battle cries and attacked the greenskins but were met my a barrage of bombs that scorched even sigmarite armour and the explosive power of bombs reaped a toll on the Stormcast Eternals. The golden warriors advanced into the firestorm and managed to subdue their prey but captured enemies said nothing except threats of bringing the fate of Salzagor's Hope to all of Thondia. [1a]

The Knight-Arcanum known as Gale's Eye caught the scent of the poison affecting the settlement and tracked it along the arcane currents of Ghur. Her scrying led to the Amberstone Watch, the strongest of the frontier settlements in the region. Knight-Vexillor Cythain D'Amar was given charge of the rearguard that was stationed in the settlement while Tyberain took the rest to the Amberstone Watch.[1a]

Battle of Amberstone Watch

Gazog had succeeded in binding a Waaagh! under him and the duty of dealing with interlopers fell to Brokkagok one of the remaining Killabosses that helped Gazog purge the rest for his own survival. When the Stormcast Eternals arrived they found the settlement under a thick mist. With no time to spare Gale's Eye was given charge of spearheading the assault alongside Vindictors of Alistar Kromain. As they entered the settlement they found the ground to be degrading into a mire and within they were attacked by Gutrippaz under Brokkagok. The Stormcast stood firm the poisons coating Kruleboy weapons blackened even the flesh of demigods. Brokkagok dueled Gale's Eye and were equally matched until the Stab-grot of the Killaboss stabbed into the Knight-Arcanum's knee joint. But before the Oruuk could finish her off Gale's Eye summoned a curtain of storm-energy around her that scorched Brokkagok's arm causing the Orruk to retreat.[1c]

Meanwhile the rest of the Auric Lions were cut off from the vanguard by the disorienting fog but found Wozgag who was attempting to accelerate the transformation of Amberstone Watch into a marshland to make pursuit impossible. Kruleboyz counter-attacked and hobgrot incendiary grenades ignited swamp gases to create blistering firestorms. The Lord-Imperatant drove the Stormcasts towards the Swampcalla Shaman causing Wozgag to retreat but not before casting spell that summoned a clutch of flesh-shredding leeches within Nahiir, one of the Tyberain's Praetors.[1c]

However the bulk of the Waaagh! was still with Gazog and mists in the inner districts were much thicker, corroding the mind and body making it impossible for anyone except a Kruleboy to enter the area. The Stormcast Eternals in the Amberstone Watch were reinforced by the rearguard and Cythain unfurled the Banner of Apotheosis fortifying the spirits of Stormcast Eternals and causing their damaged armour to repair itself and regain the golden luster. After granting Nahiir the coup de grâce Tyberain advanced the Stormcasts further into the Amberstone Watch. Within, the fog marred their flesh and armour as fast as it was renewedd by the Banner of Apotheosis and they began to strike at shadows while muttering in half-remebered languages. But they remained determined as the destruction of previous settlements motivated them to push forward and stop the same fate falling upon more settlements. As the ground rumbled and quaked the Auric Lions reached the heart of Amberstone Watch but Gazog was ready, the Stormcast Eternals were being surrounded by his forces while the Swampcalla Shamans were almost done brewing the broth in an industrial scale. Gazog riding upon the Great Gnashtoof Spinemuncha raised his spear as the Auric Lions fell into formation but was suddenly interrupted by the piercing cry of hawks. [1c]

Suddenly from the sky came Yndrasta, who after seeing Nahiir's slow return to Azyr could not restrain herself anymore and justified the deviation from her mission as Spinemuncha was monstrous enough to warrant her intervention. She was swathed in heavenly light that sent Orruks reeling backwards while her wings dispersed the mists surrounding her. Her spear show through the air to pierce the head of a troggoth before returnin to her hand. Beneath her portals opened and through them charged Annihilators who smashed through the Gutrippaz in front of them without slowing. However Kruleboyz launched ambushes from their hides and boltholes while Gazog himself joined the battle to buy time for the shamans to complete the ritual.[1c]

Aftermath

Yndrasta's intervention managed to change the tide of the battle and chase away the Kruleboyz. However the Orruks managed to contaminate enough arcane pathways to transfigure a swathe of Thondia into marshland. Yndrasta takes charge of a Dawnbringer Crusade to launch a counter-attack that resulted in the purging of three Kruleboy lairs in quick succession, lining her trophy halls with heads of greenskin despots.[2a]
