Vannah was a God of the Forgotten Dead who was devoured by Nagash in the Time of Tribulations.[1] Though sundered and much diminished by their encounter with Nagash, some part of Vannah lingered on and the god was eventually revived by one of the Agents of Defiance in Ulfenkarn.[2a]

Appearance

Before they were nearly devoured by Nagash, Vannah appeared as a large being composed of amethyst light.[1] After their return they bore the appearance of an emaciated, wizened being clad in sombre robes.[2a]

History

Age of Myth

In the Age of Myth the god took refuge in a hidden underworld, untouched by Nagash, populated by lost souls.[1]

Age of Sigmar

In the Time of Tribulations having discovered his continued existence, Sigmar sent emissaries to find the god and ask him to join him in the battle against Nagash. Finally using a Katophrane tablet recovered from Shadespire, the Stormcast Eternal Rayvan Nightbolt found him and his lost souls. However, this also revealed the previously hidden deity and his charges to Nagash who devoured the god and claimed those souls as his own.[1]

Though this experience left Vannah much diminished and sundered, what remained of the godling was contained within an amulet split in half. At some point one of the heroes that would become the Agents of Defiance found one half of the amulet and the other ended up in Ulfenkarn. Eventually, the two halves called out to each and once reunited fused to the hero's weapon. Vannah then bid the hero to slay followers of Nagash in their name to, so that they could rise once more. Once the task is completed the amulet falls from the hero's weapon and reforms as it lands on their chest. Vannah manifests, renewed but diminished, before the hero, placing a wrinkled hand upon their shoulder to bless them. Then Vannah departs, eager to escape Nagash's ire.[2a]

Power

He has the power to hide his underworld and its lost souls and strike them from memory, standing outside of Nagash's grasp for three ages. A metal tablet built by the Katophranes allowed a Stormcast to subvert his power, allowing them to be found.[1]

Quotes

These are my forgotten dead. In death they sought escape from the deeds of their past, and by my power were they stricken from all memory.

~Vannah to Rayvan Nightbolt..[1]

Hear me, warrior. I am sundered, but some small part of me yet survives. Slay the minions of the Usurper in tribute to me, that I might rise again.

~Vannah to an Agent of Defiance..[2a]

Trivia

  • Both masculine and non-binary pronouns have been applied to Vannah.[1][2a]
