The Umbral Web is an extension of the Shadowpaths, a labyrinthine network that travels between the realms. Created from the power of Ulgu, this maze allows passage into regions that are otherwise unreachable.[1a]

Usage

During the Age of Myth locations across the Mortal Realms were anchored to Ulgu by a series of shadowy waystones laid down by Morathi and Malerion. [1a] Users of Umbral Web can Shadow Leap, allowing them to instantly travel using a shadow to another location within a shadow.[2b]

Risks

However to enter the Umbral Web unprepared is to risk never returning as its shrouded depths are near impossible to navigate and nightmarish creatures that dwell within consider mortal souls a particular delicacy. Prolonged exposure to the Umbral Web causes the flesh and the soul to recede until only a formless shade, a malicious entity of pure shadow is left and even Morathi and Malerion who are the only ones that have discovered how to travel in its shrouded paths cannot stay indefinitely within the web. Thus disposable agents such as the Khainite Shadowstalkers who are branded with arcane runes that offer a temporary protection are used to travel the web.[1a]
