Splintered Fang

The Splintered Fang are a Chaos cult from Invidia[3a] who worship the Coiling Ones.[1]

Beliefs

The Shamans of the cult are considered blessed by the daemonic entities of strength and cunning that they call the Coiling Ones. They are able to brew deadly poisons, enhancing their serpent familiars toxin which they gift to the warriors to coat blade and barb enabling them to strike down their enemies with ease.[1a] There are still some within the cult that secretly worship Nagendra rather than his children.[1b]

Some believe that Nagendra’s teeth fell to make the mountains of The Fangs, when the solar drake Ignax tore him down. His flesh fell to make the serpents of the realms.[3a]

History

Their ancestors were tribespeople in the jungles of Invidia who worshipped a pantheon of animalistic deities that included the Godbeast Nagendra but this was corrupted by Chaos and their loyalty clamined by the Coiling Ones, daemonic entities claiming to be children of the Serpent Father. They then wiped out the other tribes of the area and tossed captives into snake pits, taking only those not slain by their toxins into the growing cult. This custom still continues with captured enemies.[1b]

Warriors of the cult serve as mercenaries for Chaos Lords.[1b]

Common Warband Origins

  • Ophidian Guard: The Guards of Temples dedicated to the Coiling Ones. [1b]
  • Pit Vipers: Warbands that served as brutal trainers of Splintered Fang warriors.[1b]
  • Venom-blooded: Those who have tested the blessed poisons of the Coiling Ones on their own flesh.[1b]
  • Faithful of Nagendra: Warbands who secretly worship Nagendra, not the Cooiling Ones.[1b]
  • Mercenaries: Those warbands that have served as mercenaries to many Chaos Lords.[1b]
  • Converts: Warbands of rival tribes subsumed by the Splintered Fang.[1b]

Mutations

Some of the cult are blessed with specific mutations such as smooth-scaled skin, unblinking eyes or caustic black blood. [1b]

Warband

Trueblood

It is said that the blood of the daemonic Coiling Ones boils within the veins of Trueblood champions, granting them the uncanny reflexes and blinding speed for which they are so greatly feared.[2] Truebloods regularly test themselves with the deadliest poisons, eventually building up an immunity to the most toxic of concoctions.[3a]

Serpent Callers

Many of the Splintered Fang’s war-priests, known as Serpent Callers, possess an unnatural bond with serpents, and employ the most lethal and venomous of such creatures as living weapons.[2]

Serpents

The snakes that the Splintered Fang employ as living weapons are tainted by the corrupting touch of the Coiling Ones and possessed of both unnatural cunning and terrible, flesh-eating venoms.[2]

Purebloods

Only the strongest survive the terrible ritual of the Serpent’s Kiss, and thus ascend to the rank of Pureblood. Few warriors match blades with these master duellists and survive to tell the tale.[2]

Clearbloods

Clearbloods are the foot soldiers of the Splintered Fang; neophyte cultists who seek to prove their devotion to the Coiling Ones by slaying their foes with poison-dripping blades. The shields wielded by Splintered Fang warriors are tipped with barbed spikes, laced with the same lethal toxins as the Clearbloods carry on their blades.[2]

Venombloods

Veterans of countless raids, Venombloods are graceful killers who strike with terrifying speed, scoring a fatal blow and letting their poisoned blades clot the enemy’s blood in their veins. Those wielding a barbed whip in tandem with a parrying dagger, overwhelm their foes with a whirlwind of deadly, lashing strikes. Those that eschew the protection of a buckler in order to maximise their lethality, some Venombloods are skilled in the art of dual-wielding toxin-laced blades. In the hands of a Venomblood, a barbed and poisoned whip is a terrifyingly unpredictable weapon, able to slip past shields and wrap around throats with lethal results.[2]
