Snarlfangs are large, lupine predators with a toxic bite frequently ridden by grots of the Gitmob.[1]

Habitat

Snarlfangs hunt the plains of multiple realms. Some speculate that they originate - or at least first encountered the Gitmobs - in Hysh[1], while they are populous enough in Ghur to merit an entry in Osclephius' Ghurish Bestiary.[2]

Behaviour

Snarlfangs live in packs with the largest wolf being the pack alpha.[2a] They are capable of traveling great distances at speed due to their long strides and great stamina.[2b] A snarlfang's sensitive nose can sense blood at a great distance.[2c]

When hunting prey, snarlfangs will attempt to bite great chunks of flesh off their quarry[2d] or hobble them.[2e] If they fail to bring down their prey immediately, they will track the wounded prey for days, waiting for the blood loss and venom to weaken the prey sufficiently to bring it to bay.[2f] Once they run down the prey, they will close in for the kill.[2g]

Relationship with Grots

A Gitmob grot who wants a snarlfang will steal as young a pup as possible to raise, often taking one before the pup can open its eyes.[2h] Once a snarlfang has grown, the grot who raised it keeps it loyal by providing plenty of raw meat.[2i] Even so, grot-raised snarlfangs have been known to turn on their riders, which given the size difference is often fatal for the grot.[1]

Moonclan grots believe that snarlfangs howling means that the Bad Moon is near.[3]
