Praetoris
Praetoris is the underworld of faithful guardians in the Ossiarch Empire in the Realm of Shyish.[1a][1b]

Inhabitants
The continent is home to the Mortis Praetorians legion of Bonereapers and their mortal vassals. The glory of its necropolises are matched only by Gothizzar and Nagashizzar itself.[2a]
Geography
Praetoris is in the centre of the Ossiarch Empire and connects by land to Necros and Cadavaris in the south. Great bone bridges crafted by the Mortisans reach Lyria, Equuis Main, and Anadiria (via Dosch), connecting Praetoris directly to almost all of the Ossiarch Empire.[1c]
The continent's mountainous western Necrarch Coast faces Hallost and Lyria across the waters of the Nihilat Reach. The remainder of the continent - save the small mountain chains of Nightfire Spine in the northwest and the Ghodrine Peaks in the east - consists of the steppes of the Great Plains of Praetoris.[1c]
History
Age of Myth
- The Ossian general Orpheon Katakros breaks the hold of Darkoath tribes on the Nightfire Spine mountain range.[1b]
- When the Cadavaran Alliance pushes back against Ossian domination of their lands while Katakros is in Equuis Main, he returns via Praetoris, replenishing his troops along the way. His victory over the Alliance leads to Katakros declaring himself ruler of a new Ossiarch Empire.[1b]
Age of Chaos
- The Molten Horde, an alliance of Chaos tribes and infernal duardin, rises to control much of the continent.[1a]
Age of Sigmar
- After being freed from his imprisonment in the Midnight Tomb, the remade Katakros marches from Nagashizzar via the Nihilaus Realmgate to reconquer Praetoris. He moves up the Necrarch Coast with the Petrifex Elite while sending Zandtos to lead legions up the opposite coast, from Nerozzar in northern Cadavaris up to the Ghodrine Peaks. Once the coasts are secure, the Ossiarch forces converge on the Chaos-worshipping Molten Horde tribes of the plains, ultimately annihilating them in battle at Lake Elverin.[1b]
- In the War of Light and Death, the Lumineth launch a surprise attack from Hallost, landing on the Necrarch Coast and marching to smash the Triptych and damage or destroy many other fortresses and monuments.[2a][3a] Following the retreat of the Lumineth, increased tithes cause rebellions in among the living of Praetoris, and enemies thought vanquished grow bold enough to raid and pillage across the continent.[2a][2b]
