The Oasis of Gazul is the ancestral cavern-city of the Gazul-Zagaz, that dates back to the Age of Myth.[1a][2] It is counted among the Shyishan territories of Sigmar's Empire by the God-King himself.[1a]

History

Age of Myth

In the Age of Myth the Oasis of Gazul was one of the prominent city-states of the region of Shyish known as the Sea of Dust. During this era it provided shelter to both traveling merchants and pilgrims.[2]

Age of Chaos

As with most of the civilizations of the Mortal Realms, the Oasis of Gazul was reduced to ruins by the forces of Chaos during the apocalyptic Age of Chaos. For many centuries these forces were led by Amin'Hrith the Soulflayer, who slew and stole the soul of the last prince of Gazul-Baraz.[2]

Age of Sigmar

After the Keeper of Secrets known as Amin’Hrith the Soulflayer and its daemonic horde was slain by the combined forces of the Swiftblades, a Vanguard Auxillary Chamber of the Hallowed Knights, and the Gazul-Zagaz, the latter were able to rebuild their city.[1a][2]

By the time the Necroquake broke across the Mortal Realms the Oasis of Gazul had grown prominent once more, even being considered a notable territory of Sigmar's Empire alongside the likes of Gravewild and Glymmsforge by the God-King himself. Unfortunately, all three settlements were assailed by undead awoken by the Necroquake.[1a]

Religion

The primary god of the city is Gazul, the Lord of Underearth.[2]

Locations

The majority of the cavern-city of the Oasis of Gazul is built into a cavern system found under the Gazul-Baraz. The uppermost districts of the city were however built around that limestone mountain. Within the ruins of the surface city, once claimed by Amin'Hrith when it stalked the region, are the remains of shattered statues, watercourses and aqueducts.[2]

  • Gazul-Baraz: A massive limestone mountain under and around which the Oasis of Gazul was built.[2]
  • Great Temple of Gazul: A massive temple found in the central plaza of the surface city. It is comprised of massive pillars forming a rotunda, lined with grim statues of long-dead Duardin. Thousands of Khazalid runes are carved into the pillars, the Gazul-Zagaz claim they are the names of the city's dead. The city's aqueducts extend from the edifice, for the spring that supplies all the city's water lies within.[2]
    • Spring Within the Temple: It is the primary source of water in the city and remained uncorrupted and pure even after the city was invaded and destroyed by Chaos.[2]

Inhabitants

The city is home to the Duardin known as the Gazul-Zagaz, who venerate and worship the duardin deity known as Gazul.[2]
