The Mortal Realms are home to a wide variety of languages, many of which have regional dialects and variations. Major urban hubs and trade centers, such as the markets of the Eternal City of Azyrheim and the docklands of the Sky-ports of the Kharadron Empire, play host to many languages and dialects originating from all across the Mortal Realms. These grand markets will have nearly a thousand different languages and tongues spoken by merchants as they trade, hawk their wares, and converse with one another.[1a][10a]

Common Languages
The Azyrite tongues and their many variations are commonly spoken by the people of Azyr, the Free Cities, and other lands that have come under the influence the Realm of the Heavens.[10a]
Khazalid, the language of the Duardin peoples, is spoken in it's many variations by the Kharadron, the Fyreslayers, the Disposssessed Clans, and even the Humans who are found among the ranks of the Ironweld Arsenal[1a][3a][4a][4b] While the Kharadron of every Sky-port speak Khazalid, each port has it's own unique quirks and cultural variations in how they speak and write it.[19a]
The Dark Tongue, and all it's profane variations, is the collection of languages spoken by the Daemons of the Realm of Chaos. This vile tongue found it's way to the Mortal Realms via the machinations of Tzeentch, and now it is widely known among the mortal followers of the Dark Gods.[2a][11a]
Queekish is the chittering language favored by the children of the Great Horned Rat.[18a]
Ogorspeak is the common tongue used by the myriad Ogor Mawtribes scattered across the Mortal Realms. The Beastclaw Raiders have their own language, Svoringar, but prefer to speak the common tongue when in the company of other cultures of Ogors.[5a]
Known Languages and Dialects
- Aelven Tongues: The languages of the Aelves.[25a]
- Ancient Tongue of Ulthuan: The language once spoken in Ulthuan, the continent in the World-That-Was upon which the ancestors of the Aelves lived. When Celennar first appeared to Teclis, it mentally spoke to him in this language.[25a]
- Language of the Ionrach: A language spoken by the idoneth of the Enclaves of the Green Gulch, and presumably many other enclaves descended from the Ionrach.[6d]
- Agathae: This is one of many alchemichal languages employed by the alchemists and weaponsmiths of the Mortal Realms.[29a]
- Arcanti: An old language.[27b]
- Celestial Tongue of Azyr: The Celestial Tongues, also known as Azyri, the Azyrite tongues or Azyrire languages, are languages originating from Azyr. It is spoken across the Mortal Realms by many human tribes, cities, and nations and there are many known variations of these languages.[9][10a][14a]
- High Azyrite: One of the variations of the languages.[27a]
- Chamonian Dialect: Chamonian Dialects of the Celestial Tongue are known for being fluid, with varying words being soft or harsh.[15a]
- Dialect of the Pyremouth Tribe: Language spoken by the Pyremouth Tribe. It has the same root language as the Azyrite languages spoken in the Free Cities of the Great Parch.[13a]
- Barterspeak: Barterspeak is a patois language used by Kharadron. It is employed when trading and negotiating with human tribes.[7a]
- Dark Tongue: The languages spoken by the followers, both Mortal and Daemon, of the Dark Gods.[2a][11a]
- Druhirri: The ancient and forbidden arcane language used by Isharann Embailors to control their Bond-Beasts.[6c]
- Eltharri: The arcane language of the Isharann and Cythai.[6a][6b]
- Fleizchan: Fleizchan is an ancient language of the Amethyst Princedoms, which is known for bearing difficult to master.[26a]
- Forbidden Script of Mordant: The written language used by Nagash's priests. Within Azyrite societies and fiefs it is considered a heresy for anyone except for death-priests to learn this forbidden script.[8a]
- Igneous: Igneous is one of the many dialects spoken in Aqshy.[16b]
- Old Khazalid: The ancestral language of the Khazalid Empires of the Duardin. Variations and dialects of this language are used by the Duardin of the Fyreslayers, Kharadron Overlords, Dispossessed, and Ironweld Arsenal. The Ironweld requires its Human members to also learn Khazalid.[3a][4a][4b]
- Khazalid: The most common variation of the language that is used by the Dispossessed, Fyreslayers, and Kharadron Overlords.[3a][4a][4b]
- Old Tongue of the Ulfort: A variation of the language spoken by the Ulrung Fyreslayers.[28a]
- Westdock-of-Barak-Zilfin: This is one of the known accents of the Khazalid language employed by the Kharadron. It is a more neutral accent used in more professional settings.[9]
- Language of the Children of Dracothion: Stardrakes and Dracoths are quick to learn the languages of Aelfs, Humans, and Duardin, but only speak in their own language. Other races consider difficult to comprehend.[12a]
- Language of Aquita: A language spoken in Aquita, a province of Bataar in the Age of Myth.[20b]
- Language of Bataar: The language spoken by the people of Bataar's empire in the Age of Myth.[20b]
- Language of the Chuitsek: The distinct language spoken by the Chuitsek people of Chamon. Though when bartering with their Kharadron trading partners they use the simplistic trade language known as Barterspeak.[7a]

- Ogorspeak: The common tongue of the Ogor Mawtribes.[5a]
- Orrukish Languages: The myriad languages spoken by the Orruks tribes and clans scattered across the Mortal Realms.[21a]
- Savage Tongues: The language of the Bonesplitterz Warclans is unsophisticated, limited in vocabulary, and involves quite a bit of chest-bashing. Yet it serves the needs of these brutal Orruks.[24a]
- Tongue of the Aridians: The language spoken by the Aridian tribes governed by the Prophet-Monarchs.[20a]
- Queekish: A language used by the Skaven.[17][18a]
- Svoringar: The language of the Beastclaw Raiders, also known as the Tongue of the Ice Lords.[5a]
- Sylvan Tongue: The term applied to the spoken language used by the Sylvaneth of Cueth'ene.[6e]
- Trickster's Tongue: A secret language that borrows from Azyrite and Arcanti, though to those unfamiliar with it is seems like jumbled gibberish. It was once the language used by the Guilds of the Cat, the foremost thieves and murderers of Azyr before the Purge of Heaven. The tongue endures in the Free Cities as a language of thieves and killers.[27b]
- Worm-Tongue: The language of the Vurm-tai nomads, who follow in the wake of the Great Worms of the Amber Steppes.[15b]
Accents and Other Variations
- People from the Free City of Gravewild, many of whom originate from the Azyrite city of Nordrath, speak with a strange, lilting accent that makes it sound as if they were singing as they spoke.[16c]
- Some dialects and languages of people hailing from Chamon are noted as being fluid in nature,[15a][15c]
- Those native to the regions around Aqshy's Hot Seas are noted for speaking with a harsh rasp.[15d]
- Some tribesmen from Ghur supposedly speak with a rough growl.[15d]
- The people of the Black Marsh Barony, such as the Leatherbacks Freeguild, speak with a pronounced drawl [16d]
Additional Information
Skilled orators and statesmen of the Stormhosts, such as Lord-Celestant Victrian Cyrocco of the Tempest Lords, learn to be fluent in many languages to aid in diplomacy.[12b]
Despite hailing from the Realm of Azyr, the Seraphon do not speak the same languages as the Azyrites and Stormcast. Instead they speak a language that is comprised mostly of whistles and clicks, with only a few Skinks learning the languages of other mortal races. This divide in communication has resulted in formal alliances between the Seraphon and other forces of Order being rare, despite their shared hatred of Chaos[22][23]
