The Mortal Realms are home to a wide variety of languages, many of which have regional dialects and variations. Major urban hubs and trade centers, such as the markets of the Eternal City of Azyrheim and the docklands of the Sky-ports of the Kharadron Empire, play host to many languages and dialects originating from all across the Mortal Realms. These grand markets will have nearly a thousand different languages and tongues spoken by merchants as they trade, hawk their wares, and converse with one another.[1a][10a]

Common Languages

The Azyrite tongues and their many variations are commonly spoken by the people of Azyr, the Free Cities, and other lands that have come under the influence the Realm of the Heavens.[10a]

Khazalid, the language of the Duardin peoples, is spoken in it's many variations by the Kharadron, the Fyreslayers, the Disposssessed Clans, and even the Humans who are found among the ranks of the Ironweld Arsenal[1a][3a][4a][4b] While the Kharadron of every Sky-port speak Khazalid, each port has it's own unique quirks and cultural variations in how they speak and write it.[19a]

The Dark Tongue, and all it's profane variations, is the collection of languages spoken by the Daemons of the Realm of Chaos. This vile tongue found it's way to the Mortal Realms via the machinations of Tzeentch, and now it is widely known among the mortal followers of the Dark Gods.[2a][11a]

Queekish is the chittering language favored by the children of the Great Horned Rat.[18a]

Ogorspeak is the common tongue used by the myriad Ogor Mawtribes scattered across the Mortal Realms. The Beastclaw Raiders have their own language, Svoringar, but prefer to speak the common tongue when in the company of other cultures of Ogors.[5a]

Additional Information

Skilled orators and statesmen of the Stormhosts, such as Lord-Celestant Victrian Cyrocco of the Tempest Lords, learn to be fluent in many languages to aid in diplomacy.[12b]

Despite hailing from the Realm of Azyr, the Seraphon do not speak the same languages as the Azyrites and Stormcast. Instead they speak a language that is comprised mostly of whistles and clicks, with only a few Skinks learning the languages of other mortal races. This divide in communication has resulted in formal alliances between the Seraphon and other forces of Order being rare, despite their shared hatred of Chaos[22][23]
