Kurnoth hunters fighting Ironjawz Orruks

Kurnoth Hunters are a type of Sylvaneth in the Mortal Realms that are the living embodiments of the wrath of the hunter god Kurnoth, one of the few deities the sylvaneth worship alongside Alarielle herself. These are the most elite of the warriors of the sylvaneth wargroves, they are swift, strong and equally skilled with Greatbows, Greatswords and Scythes. In combat they are devastating, wielding their powerful weapons, accompanied by vicious Spites called Quiverlings and able to sprout a thick weave of thorned branches to enhance their already thick bark-skin.[1c][2a]

Origin

They first emerged from the Soul-Pod groves in the Age of Sigmar, when Alarielle took up the Spear of Kurnoth. They take the form of hulking warriors nearly twice the size of Dryads.[1c] The Heartwood Glade in particular welcomed these new hunters and continue to hold them in the highest regard, drawing inspiration from them in battle.[1e] Many other hunters have been seen among the ranks of Harvestboon Glade wargroves.[1d][5a]

History

Age of Sigmar

Kurnoth Hunters have been involved in many battles and wars, within and beyond the Realm of Ghyran. They spearheaded a Wild Hunt to cleanse the Mistwoods of Shae-Rahat, the Great Unclean One Gruxulok and his followers. A hundred Hunters scaled Mount Anvil to liberate the Realmgate known as Anvil Gate atop it from the Skaven of Clan Feesik [1f]

Strategy

Kurnoth Hunters travel in small bands, ranging ahead of Alarielle's Wargroves. Some arcane sorcery of their mother lends speed and subtlety to their movements, allowing them to pass undetected through all but the most heavily guarded terrain. Then, they watch the enemy's movements with infinite patience before choosing the perfect moment to strike. When they fight, the Kurnoth Hunters show none of the capricious whimsy of some of their kin. [1c]

Although they are masters of sword, bow and scythe, they are also strong enough to tear a Chaos Warrior in two and are tough enough to shrug off even dragon-fire. The Kurnoth Hunters are agile and skillful fighters with a grace that seems almost supernatural in beings so large and powerful. [1c]

They always have a purpose, a mission, and a carefully considered method. Calm as an ancient oak, certain as the seasons turn, the Kurnoth Hunters lure their victims into traps and strike swiftly from ambushes. They're not only exceptional scouts, but also serve as the Everqueen's executioners. Should an enemy war leader be deemed too dangerous to live, or some perpetrator of great misery against the sylvaneth be found, the Kurnoth Hunters have their queen's dispensation to call the Wild Hunt.[1a] At such times, all sylvaneth are compelled to lend their strength to the Hunters' quest and will not rest until their prey has been cornered and slain.[1c]

Wargear

Kurnoth Hunters go to war with a wide variety of weapons. These include Kurnoth Greatswords, Kurnoth Greatbows, and Kutnoth Scythes. In addition to these martial weapons the Hunters will employ their vast bulk to trample foes. They can also grow thick, thorned branches to protect themselves from harm.[5b]
