Heart of Winter is a novella by Nick Horth. It describes the quest for the artefact named in the title by Arika Zenthe, a Scourge Privateers Fleetmaster [1]

At the beginning of the story, Arika is seeking to board her hated father, Zarkland Zenthe's flagship, the Black Ark Eternity of Torment seeking vengeance for herself and her family. However she is betrayed, captured and poisoned, the antidote only to be made available when she returns the Heart of Winter to him. The rest of the story follows this quest and then another confrontation with her father. [1]
