The Great Green Torc is a huge, floating island that hovers above the Scabrous Sprawl in Ghyran.[1a][1b]

Description

The Great Green Torc resembles the object for which it is named: a huge ring of land broken by the Amethyst Gate. Travelling clockwise along the Torc from the Amethyst Gate, one passes through the areas eternally in one of the twelve seasons of the Everspring Swathe, beginning at Rebirth and ending at Death.[1c]

Rebirth

This region of the Torc is the most unblemished by Nurgle's corruption. The alabaster fortress of Castle Neonatus faces the Amethyst Gate, and the lands are cool and smooth.[1c]

Springseed

Growth begins here as small plants and fungi begin to poke out of the ground.[1c]

Naive Hope

Here, the growth of the young plants continues, though the influence of Nurgle has caused unnatural fungal growth in the region of Mycelia.[1c][1f]

The Blooming

The saplings strain to grow ever higher here.[1c]

The Burgeoning

This is a region of unbound fecundity, with forests straining with ripe fruit. The Arboreal Keeps here guard the Grand Umbilicus.[1c]

The Mellowing

In this region of late-summer golds, the Grand Umbilicus connects the Torc with the Scabrous Sprawl below. Here are the orchards of Verdia, not to be confused with the continent below of the same name.[1c]

The Reaping

This region is makes a vibrant palette of its sentient trees.[1c]

Secret Remorse

The leaves fall here, and collect in drifts in Rottgeld.[1c]

The Dwindling

The frost begins to creep across the land. Here are the web-wreathed territory of the Spiderfang Grots of Arachnia.[1c]

The Great Lack

This part of the Torc is filled with ice fields and bony forests of leafless trees.[1c]

Everdusk

This is a dark landscape of cold tombs.[1c]

Death

Here stands the Castle Morbydus guarding the Amethyst Gate.[1c]

History

Age of Myth

  • Aelves build the fortress of Castle Neonatus on the brow of the Great Cherub that marks the edge of Rebirth.[1g]
  • The greatest gargants of the Harmonis Veldt climb the Grand Umbilicus to rule over the Torc. When the tribes below have a dispute that they cannot resolve themselves, they consult with the Gargant King of the Torc.[1a][1c]
  • Spiderfang Grots make their nests in the spaces between the sentient trees of The Reaping and the icy forests of The Dwindling where giant spiders dwell. The region becomes known as Arachnia.[1c][1d]

Age of Chaos

  • Brayherds of Nurgle surge out of their hidden lairs across the Scabrous Sprawl and ascend the Grand Umbilicus to the Torc. The diseases they bring with them force the gargants to descend to the Sprawl below in search of food. The grots, loath to abandon their nests, hide in the deepest parts of Arachnia.[1c]
  • The daemonic oracle Kiathanus tells Archaon that, should the Nurgle-corrupted Torc be placed about Behemat's neck, the godbeast will be enslaved to his will. Though the Everchosen despises the skaven, he realizes that their ability to gnaw through the earth will be vital to find and awaken the dormant World Titan, and he sends great numbers of them to the Scabrous Sprawl.[1c]
