Of the Gaunt Summoners of Tzeentch, little is known, save that there can only be nine at one time and that they are all shrouded in cloaks of sorcerous illusion. They are powerful, faceless daemon sorcerers from the Crystal Labyrinth of Tzeentch who have served Archaon ever since the Everchosen enslaved them during the Age of Chaos.[1][4] After enslaving of Gaunt Summoners Archaon being angry at their unwillingness to serve him took one of the senses of each of them.[10] They are able to twist reality with their incantations or engulf whole armies in warpfire. Known to be responsible for some of the most horrifying atrocities of the Age of Chaos.[1][4]
The Gaunt Summoners are the masters of the Silver Towers, ever-changing arcane fortresses that link the Realm of Chaos to the Mortal Realms.[2]
They can be armed with Chargestaves, a Warptongue Blade and a Book of Profane Secrets and can ride a Disc of Tzeentch, granting the rider the ability to fly, or accompanied by a quartet of Chaos Familiars, that provide a myriad of benefits and take damage for him. They can cast a Fractal Mindstorm, which turns the enemy mental strength against itself, or Infernal Flames, that engulfs an area in scorching flames.[3][5]
The Summoners hid the location of the imprisoned daemon lord of Tzeentch, Kaithanus from their master, hopeing to use its knowledge to gain power over him.[7] Archaon summoned them to great conclave together with many Chaos Sorcerers to ambush the Slann Iquala and his Seraphon army.[2a]
