Doomvarag

Doomvarags are Fyreslayers who have become so lost to glimmerlust that they attempt to kill other Fyreslayers to acquire their ur-gold runes.[1a]

Emergence

In the lodges, the Zharrgrim priesthood are called to help douse any flare-ups of glimmerlust and prevent the emergence of Doomvarags. For this reason, Doomvarags most frequently come from those Fyreslayers who spend most of their time far away from broader Fyreslayer society and who cannot easily seek the counsel of the Zharrgrim. The most infamous Doomvarags are deranged Doomseekers, whose oaths have mandated that they depart their lodges and whose skill at arms means that they are lethal opponents for any unprepared Fyreslayers that they might come across.[1a]

Many Fyreslayers have some innate ability to sense nearby ur-gold, and Doomseekers often find their way to a gathering fyrd by this sixth sense. This skill is equally present among those who have fallen to the glimmerlust, so when a wandering Doomseeker approaches a Fyreslayer army there is always the fear that this is not a champion who will fight alongside the fyrd but is instead a foe as dangerous as whatever the fyrd was gathered to defeat.[1b]

Infamy

Particularly dangerous Doomvarags such as the Axe of Magorth or the Immolated Slayer become grim legends among the Fyreslayers. Stories of their exploits form cautionary tales warning against trying to take on more ur-gold runes than is due or that can be handled, reinforcing the Zharrgrim's teachings and helping to ensure that glimmerlust is as rare as possible.[1a][2a]
