Bloodthirsters are the mightiest of the Daemons of Khorne, physical embodiments of Khorne's rage and the fury of war given form. These huge, towering creatures have a never-ending thirst for blood, desiring only death and devastation and each of them equal to an entire mortal army.[2][3]

Appearance

Bloodthirsters are covered in the iconography of Khorne, seen in the weapons and the details on the wings and armour. They wear belly plates and loincloth and sometimes armour plates on the legs and torso. When they leap flames often burst from their feet.[2]

Their wings give them the ability to fly.[1a][1b]

Hierarchy

Khorne, being a martial god, has imposed military hierarchy on his daemonic legions. Bloodthirsters are arranged in eight hosts, ordered by might and skill at arms and each granted distinctive arms and armour. Each Bloodthirster commands eight Bloodthirsters of the host below them, each of which in turn commands eight of the host below them, and so on until the eighth host, who command no lesser Bloodthirsters but instead serve as the primary generals for the daemonic legions of the Blood God.[4a] The ranks are titled as following, in order of seniority: Exalted, Lord of Murder, Wrath of Khorne, Apoplectic Ire, Seething Frenzy, Insensate Rage, Executioner of Khorne, and Unfettered Fury.[6a]

Outside this hierarchy are eighty-eight Bloodthirsters who serve the Blood God directly in unique roles, such as Wroth'kar, Guardian of the Eight Gates.[5b]

The First Host: Exalted

An Exalted Bloodthirster surpasses other Khornate Daemons in size and thirst for war, being the most fury-filled. They butcher through the ranks of their enemies and leave great rives of gore in their wake. They are armed with a Mighty Axe of Khorne and a Lash of Khorne, a vicious barbed whip, forged in the fires of Khorne's forges.[3][1a]

They are very much like Bloodthirsters of Unfettered Fury, but better. When a lash entangles a opponent escape is impossible. The molten rock that comes from beneath their feet is stronger. They are better at leading fellow khornate daemons at rejoicing in slaughter.[1a]

There are but eight Exalted Bloodthirsters, who are below only Khorne himself in strength and fury. Only the greatest of champions can hope to stand against them, and only the greatest of wars in the Mortal Realms can draw them from the their lairs in the Brass Citadel, where they command Khorne's war efforts.[4a]

The Second Host: Lords of Murder

The Bloodthirsters of the Second Host are only slightly less mighty than the Exalted Bloodthirsters of the First Host.[4a]

The Third Host: Wrath of Khorne

Wrath of Khorne Bloodthirsters have hound faces framed with the Icon of Khorne. They wield Wrathaxes, double-headed axes with two equal-sized blades, and Bloodflails into combat.[2] They are agents of vengeance, often tasked by Khorne to hunt down those who have personally offended him.[4b] In addition, they are given the sacred duty of humbling the greatest champions of Khorne's enemies and butchering them to show the superiority of the Blood God.[5a]

The Fourth Host: Apoplectic Ire

Little is known of these fell daemons.

The Fifth Host: Seething Frenzy

Like their immediate superiors, Bloodthirsters of the Fifth Host are rarely seen in the Mortal Realms.

The Sixth Host: Insensate Rage

Bloodthirsters of Insensate Rage have fanged maws and forked tongues with four horns atop their heads.[2] They are armed with enormous double-handed axes that can obliterate entire regiments of the foe in a single gory strike and are given the task of breaking the seemingly unbreakable.[4a] The Bloodthirsters of Insensate Rage are the most brutal and savage of all Bloodthirsters, so enraged that their fury bleeds out to send nearby daemons into a killing frenzy.[5a]

The Seventh Host: Executioner of Khorne

The nature of these Bloodthirsters is unknown.

The Eighth Host: Unfettered Fury

Bloodthirsters of Unfettered Fury have gruesome skull-like heads. They wield Mighty Axe of Khorne and barbed Lashes of Khorne into combat.[2]

These Bloodthirsters are experts at using their long, barbed whips as those that they lash, have their throats opens and flesh stripped from their bone, with those that are not are dragged closer towards the Bloodthirster. They are unsubtle leaders able to drive their fellow Khornate Daemons into their foes to rejoice in slaughter. The land beneath their stomping hooves rebels and recoils against them cracking and opening with molten rock bubbling up from deep underground, incinerating the enemies around the Bloodthirster.[1b]
