Asphyxia is a continent on the periphery of the Ashlands in Aqshy.[1a] It was prowled by a living pyroclastic storm, a result of an ancient volcanic cataclysm,[1b] until Lord-Relictor Ionus Cryptborn drew it into the Flameheart realmgate during the Realmgate Wars.[1f]

Inhabitants

Asphyxia once held many populous nations, and some survived to the Realmgate Wars, fighting against the Khornate invaders with stubborn fury. Sigmar was so impressed by the Asphyxians' resilience that he sent the Firestorm Crusade to liberate the land.[1b] More darkly, the determined resistance of the Asphyxians drew the attention of Valkia the Bloody, who prowled the battlefields of Asphyxia in search of worthy disciples.[1c]

Some tribes of Asphyxia knew rituals to summon Asphyxius, the great pyroclasm that roamed their lands,[1d] and appeared unaffected by the firestorm even as it burns those around them.[1e]

Events

The wild islands of the Tauroi Archipelago crash into Asphyxia regularly, allowing bullgors to swarm across and ravage the land.[1a]

On the hottest days, a vision of the Crystal Henge of the Unreachable Mountain appears in the skies above Asphyxia. Some claim that reaching this mirage would allow one to reach the peak of the mountain. The mirage used to appear on a high cliff, but that cliff has long eroded away.[1a] This mirage is in fact a realmgate known as the Hengegate that leads from Asphyxia to the Unreachable Mountain.[1e]
